Welcome to Wendell L. Willkie American Legion Post 19, Akron, Ohio!

We are glad you have found us, and hope that as you navigate our pages, you come to learn who we are and whom we support.
Whether you are currently serving this Nation, you have begun to transition from active duty, or you have been honorably discharged or retired for years, we hope you will consider becoming part of one of the oldest American Legion posts within the American Legion’s Department of Ohio.
Our Charter permits membership based on the following criteria:
WITH THE PASSING OF THE LEGION ACT, ON 30 JULY 2019, MORE VETERANS, SONS AND AUXILIARY HOPEFULS CAN NOW JOIN!

To join as a regular member, you must be able to present proof of an honorable discharge or separation showing a period of active military service during any one of the following periods, and a government-issued identification card:

      • April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918
      • December 7, 1941 and after, including to present dayIf you need assistance in obtaining your DD214, please email [email protected].
There are other types of membership opportunities available as well. Please use the “Send Us A Message” form at the bottom of this page to find out if you may qualify for membership in Sons of the American Legion or  Auxiliary.

American Legion Preamble

This is the American Legion Preamble to our National Constitution and ByLaws

For God and country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes:

to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America;

to maintain law and order;

to foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent  Americanism;

to preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in all wars;

to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community,state and nation;

to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses;

to make right the master of might;

to promote peace and goodwill on earth;

to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy;

to consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.
